Rising Hope for Housing

Rising Hope for Housing Program

About the Rising Hope for Housing Program

Rising Hope for Housing is a program to help households in Washtenaw County who have Housing Choice Vouchers and are justice-impacted/-involved to increase housing stability and self-sufficiency. The program is primarily funded by the City of Ann Arbor’s Marijuana Excise Tax Rebate and is a collaborative partnership of six grant partners: A Brighter Way, Ann Arbor Housing Commission, Catholic Charities Washtenaw County, Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, SOS Community Services, and Washtenaw Housing Alliance (WHA).

Household referrals are made through grant partners as well as nonprofit and government agencies based in Washtenaw County, including but not limited to: Avalon Housing, Housing Access for Washtenaw County (HAWC), Life After Incarceration: Transition and Re-entry (LAITR), Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Michigan Ability Partners, Neutral Zone, Washtenaw Community Mental Health (CMH), and Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

For more information about the Rising Hope program check out the program’s flyer (pdf link here) and brochure (pdf link here). Questions about qualifying for the program or referring a household, please contact WHA’s staff Sharon L. and Jessi A.

For Landlords Ready to Partner with WHA

Do you have a housing unit that you can offer to WHA partners who are helping justice-involved individuals and families find suitable rental housing?

Are you willing to rent to households with rental barriers such as a past eviction, criminal background, or credit issues often due to extenuating circumstances such as an illness, divorce, or another unfortunate situation?

If so, please complete the unit availability form below and we’ll be in touch!

Additional Information - Did You Know?

The City of Ann Arbor’s Fair Chance Access to Housing Ordinance prohibits landlords who have one or more rental units in the City of Ann Arbor from using criminal history in tenant selection so that people with convictions histories have a fair opportunity to compete for rental housing and reside with family members and others.

Enforcement of this ordinance is under the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission. Questions about the ordinance can be emailed to HRC@a2gov.org. Those wanting to complete a complaint form can do so at a2gov.org/humanrights.
