Rising Hope for Housing
Rising Hope for Housing Program
About the Rising Hope for Housing Program
Rising Hope for Housing is a program to help increase housing stability and self-sufficiency for individuals and families in Washtenaw County who have Housing Choice Vouchers and have been either directly involved in or impacted by the criminal legal system. A person does not have to be experiencing homelessness to participant in the Rising Hope program. The program has been primarily funded by the City of Ann Arbor’s Marijuana Excise Tax Rebate and is a collaborative partnership of five grant partners: A Brighter Way, Ann Arbor Housing Commission, Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, SOS Community Services, and Washtenaw Housing Alliance (WHA).
Program participant referrals are made through grant partners as well as nonprofit and government agencies based in Washtenaw County, including but not limited to: Avalon Housing, Catholic Charities Washtenaw County, Housing Access for Washtenaw County (HAWC), Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Michigan Ability Partners, Neutral Zone, Washtenaw Community Mental Health (CMH), We the People Opportunity Farm, and Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
For more information about the Rising Hope program check out the program’s flyer (pdf link here) and brochure (pdf link here). Questions about qualifying for the program or referring someone to it, please contact WHA’s staff Sharon L. and Jessi A.

The City of Ann Arbor’s Fair Chance Access to Housing Ordinance prohibits landlords who have one or more rental units in the City of Ann Arbor from using conviction history in tenant selection so that people with these histories have a fair opportunity to compete for rental housing and reside with family members and others.
Enforcement of this ordinance is under the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission. Questions about the ordinance can be emailed to HRC@a2gov.org. Those wanting to complete a complaint form can do so at a2gov.org/humanrights.
