Second Info Session for Dunbar Towers Waitlist (In-person)

  • Pittsfield Branch Library 2359 Oak Valley Drive Ann Arbor, MI 48103 United States (map)

In-person - Ann Arbor

Register to attend here

Seating is limited to 90 people

Interested residents can learn more about the Dunbar Towers on the City of Ann Arbor website.

The new apartment building will include 62 one-bedroom units and one two-bedroom unit with rents set at levels to be affordable to lower-income residents, with all utilities included.

Preference is being given to Washtenaw County artists and creative types — though that does not have to be a source of income — for half the one-bedroom apartments where rent is expected to be in the range of $650 to $900 per month.

To qualify for those units, annual household income cannot exceed $52,920 for a single person or $60,480 for two people, and it must be at least $23,400 to $32,400 per year. There also will be an artist interview committee process.

Tenant-based rental vouchers can be used for those 31 apartments

Preference is being given to homeless people for the remaining units. Rent for those will be based on income, with households paying about 30% of their income on rent, while vouchers cover the rest.

For those units for people exiting homelessness, income must be less than 30% of the area median income, meaning no more than $26,450 for a single person or $30,200 for two people.

“You must be homeless (living on the streets, in a shelter, or somewhere not meant for people to live) or homeless for at least 12 months total or 4 times in the past 3 years, with a disability and meet the income guidelines,” the city website states, noting people also must be referred to Dunbar Tower through Housing Access for Washtenaw County.

The city website lists the various documents applicants will need to provide and indicates apartments will be rented in the order completed applications are approved by the commission.
