Training hosted by Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness
This training session will help those who work with people experiencing homelessness or other adversities to understand the impact of recent and past trauma on social, emotional, and executive functioning. Participants will have the opportunity to review case studies and engage in problem-based learning to better understand trauma-related core concepts.
Outcomes:
Understand how adversity and trauma impact the functioning of the nervous system
Increase their ability to identify the signs and symptoms of PTSD
Engage with evidence-based treatment approaches and be equipped to make appropriate referrals to treatment.
Speaker Bio:
Joshua Bishop, PhD, MSW, is an associate professor of Social Work at Grand Valley State University and the owner of the Center for Trauma Recovery and Counseling in Grandville, MI. He teaches undergraduate and graduate students about trauma, mental health, research, and diagnosis. He also researches trauma education, self-care, and health and well-being. In his practice, he specializes in treating PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.
