CEU’s (Ethics): Still Kicking – Confronting Ageism and Ableism

University of Michigan Health will provide 1.5 Social Work CEU at the completion of this activity (pending)

“It is not the passage of time that makes growing older so much harder than it has to be – it is ageism.” Ashton Applewhite posits that the sooner we see ageist prejudices at work in ourselves and in our place in the world, the easier it is to come up with alternative, more positive and more accurate narratives. Applewhite further reflects that much of what we fear about aging is how our minds and bodies might change as we move through life.

Join us as Applewhite discusses in her no-nonsense, warm and friendly demeanor the intersection of ableism and ageism and helps us investigate our own unconscious biases as they relate to aging, abilities, and our future selves.

Speaker: Ashton Applewhite, author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism and a Co-Founder of the Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse. (Bonus: Who is Ashton Applewhite, you say? Check out her 11m28s TEDTalk "Let's End Ageism" to find out!)
