2007 Point-In-Time Count Key Data Summary for Washtenaw County
On January 25, 2007, local homeless services providers conducted a single day, “point-in-time” count identifying persons who were in emergency shelters or homeless and on the streets. That day, we counted 580 homeless adults and children. The following information is based on interviews with 452 of the homeless adults in this count:
- 18% were identified as chronically homeless
- 15% were Veterans
- 19% had a history of domestic violence
- 64% were male, 35% female
- 56% reported a substance abuse problem
- 41% reported a mental health condition and/or emotional instability
- 25% reported a chronic medical condition
- 9% reported a learning disability
- 3% reported a development disability
- 22% were employed (permanent, temporary, seasonal)
2006 Year-end Key Data Summary for Washtenaw County
Over the course of 2006, local shelter, transitional housing, and housing crisis and supportive services providers reported responding to 3,884 unduplicated individuals and children who were experiencing homelessness (or were at-risk).
Of these, 1,580 were children in families under the age of 18.

61% were African American, 32% were white, 3% were other/multi-ethnic, 4% were other/missing
Of the adults served:

16% of single adults were chronically homeless – defined as a single, unaccompanied adult with a disability and homeless for 1 continuous year, or 4 times in the past 3 years.

8% reported veteran status.

20% reported a history of domestic violence.

32% reported working – including full-time, part-time, temporary, seasonal, and supportive employment.

32% reported a disability of long-term duration.
